How it works

A product barcode works like a car license plate; exactly the same. When you put a barcode (universal EAN-13) on your product, you are registering it so that it can be sold worldwide, in physical stores or e-commerce sites like Amazon. You will need a code for each product or for each variant of the same product.

The country prefix

The barcode that will register your product must begin with 489 and have the numbering (13 digits) registered in your name (or in the name of your company).

What will I receive

When you obtain a barcode from Hong Kong Barcodes [489], they will send you the code in 3 graphic formats (EPS, PDF and JPEG) plus the product assignment sheet in Excel, instructions for use, purchase invoice and warranty certificate.

Validity period

It will be valid for an unlimited period of time (the entire life of the product), you will pay for it only once and you will not have to pay annual renewals or face absurd bureaucracy. It will come from the regulatory body (GS1 Hong Kong) and will be accepted worldwide. You will have unlimited technical service and technical advice for commercial labelling. To bring a product to market, two barcodes are needed:

The numbering is obtained from the numbering of the product's barcode that is inside the packaging.

It is used so that the recipient does not have to open the box to find out what is inside and the number of units of the product.

They are not official GS1, since they do not begin with the prefix of Hong Kong, 489, and they are not valid. The market will reject your product, sooner or later.
